Oh fall,............

We have gone from welcoming the fall to begging the fall to come and stay.

The leaves are orange, burgundy, and yellow. I made the soup, but the thermometer says 80.

I'd really love to turn my fans off for a couple months. I'd be more than willing to feel a cool breeze and want a cozy sweater. But I guess all in due time.
In the meantime, to help bring on that cozy feeling, I started knitting a blanket for the wee one.
My idea of knitting is a little something like, "cast on and knit away". But what really happens is" cast on, re-count, undo. Cast on re-count, undo" This happens roughly 4 times before it is about right. Then the knitting begins. And thus it has. So here I go.

Diapers

I've decided to make the switch to cloth diapers. I feel that this change has been long coming. And I'm surprised that I'm just getting around to it. After lots of research online, (I don't have anyone local to guide me) I think I'd like to try a pocket. Made of PUL and cotton flannel. With a waffle-weave microfiber soaker. Does anyone with some experience have any tips or guidance? I'd like to try and make it on my own. The pattern is not an issue, but I'd love to hear some feed back on favorite materials. Or even great combos other that the PUL/flannel?

Philadelphia

I do really enjoy this city. This was Joel and I's second visit since wedded bliss. The first time babe # 1 wasn't around to enjoy it with us. We visited the Franklin Institue Science museum. Which was wonderful for adults and children. With hands on play exhibits in the center of a room, visible from all the reading and visuals around the perimeter. We originally set out to see King Tut,
but at a whopping $35 extra after museum entrance fees, and a lack a time, we decided to be satisfied without him.

A lot has been going on since my last posted. So this might be a long one. Picturewise.

We took a much needed, long (8 full days) vacation to Idaho to visit our family and some friends. We had a good blast. Lounging, eating, fellowshipping camping, hiking, and worshiping. Samuel did great on the plane. I should really give him more credit and say he was good while we traveled because there was a good share of driving and waiting in between the flying. And he was a regular peach. I'm surprised that airlines don't feed you anymore. Everything is lame, and for purchase only. Luckily, they don't give you a fit about bringing food on with you. After the major check points. Before said check points they even made me throw out a half finished bottle of water. I wasn't even allowed to finish it before doing so. "alright, alright"

something I needed, something I'd like

My girlfriend Nikki and I took a loverly little stroll in a local village the other day. They have a fabulous little cake, candy and cookie decorating store called the chocolate duck that is just peachy to visit. We also got to go in this yarn store which I'm sure I've mentioned before. I think It might be a good idea to start a knitting group. To help each other along in various projects and whatnot. There could be some girl chatting in the mix as well. There's no way we wouldn't have fun.

One of my favorite thrift store is on the same block and as we walked by I saw a double stroller parked outside. It looked like it was in good condition. Or at least good enough to inquire about it going rate. Unfortunately it was being held for someone else until that evening. I gave up on it. Until I remembered this morning. So I drove around to find it still in its spot on the sidewalk. I ran in and bargain my way around and left with this. (after making a fool of myself for all the passing cars to see whilst I figured out how to close it up)
I got away with paying a mere $30. I'm not sure exactly how much this one actually went for but the ones I was looking at online were around $200. I'm feelin thrifty.
Sam and I took a trial run around the neighborhood when we got home. And I thought I'd take some pictures of this cute little house I've been admiring for some time now. It would be lovely to own. I mean look at that porch.
And the wonderfully wild greens.

hello baby, how are you?

Here is our second bunting. Looking shy in comparison to the shots of its brother two years earlier. This baby seems to be milder in temperment the what we are currently used to. A bit more modest. Thats right folks. We got no visual. The mystery remains. I knew it was a possibility, but I was surprised anyway. Or at least we will be come January. Sigh,...Lets see if I can work some neutrals magic.

G.T.B. - W.I.P

I finally ordered this wonderful book from amazon. Its only one knitting book off the list of many. But its a start. I haven't yet chosen a project to tackle. But now that all the plannings of my sisters wedding are over, I can direct a bit of attention toward some good ol' crafting.
I really wanted to knit a hat for the new baby. But of course, I neglected to make sure there was a hat pattern I liked in this book. The one in here is okay. I was just looking for something a little more, beanie like and less decorative. So I'll choose something else for the time being.
How bout those fingerless garter mitts? They might just be my Going To Be- Work In Progress.

flutterings

Thank you to everyone who has been keeping my mother in law( for dorie sake link on sidebar) in your prayers. As you can see from her blog, the Lord answers prayers.

Things are busy. But not quite as busy as they could be. My sister is getting married saturday. We are pretty much prepared. I have some last minute cake topper perfections to make but other than that it feels surreal. It is going to come and go, and be over. Its going to rock the house. And hopefully I'll be able to take some decent pictures worth sharing.

Samuel has more ideas than his 16 month old self can carry out. This makes for a very frustrated boy. Today he spent alot of time in uncle kyle's room. There he has learned to place head phone jacks in their respective homes, listen to music on an mp3 player, and wear protective goggles. For what I'm not sure, but he had a good time.

At 12.6 weeks pregnant, I think I might be feeling some phantom mini nugget movement. Its so slight I almost doubt myself. Only to then try to reconvince my unbelieving self.
It has been much to hot to cook indoors. So to the grill we go.

Barbecued Pork and Apple Kebabs

Serves 4

• 1/2 cup apricot jam
• 2 tablespoons cider vinegar
• 1 tablespoon tomato paste
• 2 tablespoons olive oil, plus more for grill
• Coarse salt and ground pepper
• 1 1/2 pounds (about 1 1/2 inches each) pork tenderloin, halved lengthwise and cut into 16 cubes
• 1 medium red onion, cut into 8 wedges
• 1 Granny Smith apple, peeled and cut into 8 wedges

1. Heat grill to medium-high. Make the sauce: In a large bowl, combine jam, vinegar, tomato paste, and 1 tablespoon oil. Season with salt and pepper. Set aside.
2. Assemble 4 long skewers, alternating 4 pork cubes with 2 onion wedges and 2 apple wedges on each (begin with pork and end with apple). Roll skewers in remaining tablespoon oil. Season with salt and pepper.
3. Lightly oil grates. Place skewers on grill; cover grill, and cook, turning occasionally, until grill marks are visible, 6 to 8 minutes.
4. Open grill; baste skewers with some sauce, and cook, turning skewers and basting occasionally with more sauce, until pork is no longer pink in the center and is nicely glazed, 4 to 8 minutes more.

wonderful weekend::would you?

We went away to Pennsylvania for the weekend. To visit future family and these wonderful congregants. Its always such a pleasure to see them all. Even though the time spent is short.
We always look foward to going back. Which could be sooner than we thought. They are having a St. Pastricks psalm sing this coming friday. I love psalm singing in large #'s. Which is pretty much anything larger than 8 people. Its edifying!! All thouse voices praising God is so glorious. Its reaches my soul I tell you. That reminds me, Sam started to sing amen at the end of hymns. Its great to see him participate in worship service. Even though its just a tiny bit. He knows whats going on for the most part. That is, when he's not causing a disruption.

We got to do some thrifting in lancaster county. Much better resources than we have locally.
I got Sam a bunch of stuff. Books and clothes, and found this for me.

Here it is. One print/color of two. Of course minutes before we left friday afternoon I just needed to finish it so I could bring it with me. Don't you love a needle that breaks at just the right time? Two inches from finishing the last seam.
I've been working on the structure of this bag for years I hate to say. I have a mild obsession with totes. And their functionality. A bag can look really cute on the racks but if it won't stay up or you can't reach in to get to the goods without a fight, what good is it? So here is what I've come up with so far. Would anyone be intrested? I might have to put in the shop.

things that make me happy,

Before you get excited, I'm not trying to make a habit of posting everyday. It is completely coincidental, and subsequently will not last. Some things that make me smile:


snow, even when its not really enough to play in,


reading to Sam. These slippers, these little owls, this cocktail, this mop,
this fabric store, even though they will not ship to me, I know I'll get to go there someday.
And this issue of cookie magazine.

A new tote that will one day make its way into my currently empty shop, then hopefully into the arms of its new loving owner. Its taking much longer than I wanted it to. But that's because something was missing. It needed a special little su'um, su'um. Thankfully I have found it and have continued its progress. I should post some pictures, but it might be more fun if its a surprise.
